Hey cool Foxes! Are you planning to escape the rain this winter? Have you made a plan for how to take care of your hair on vacation?
If not, now is the time! We’ve got all the plans, tips, and tricks to make sure you take care of your strands – no matter where your adventures take you…
The best ways to take care of your hair on vacation
1. Plan ahead
Looking after your locks takes planning. Think about what products you’ll need to have with you. Consider bringing travel-sized bottles of your normal shampoo and conditioner, as well as any other products you use. On top of that, think about any other stresses you may encounter and make sure you have the right products to protect your hair. Not sure what products to use? Pop in for a consultation with one of the stylists at our hair salon in Mount Pleasant and we’ll hook you up!
2. Block chlorine and salt
Chlorine and salt can be incredibly damaging to your hair! In fact, it’s one of the biggest vacation stressors for your locks. That’s why you should always spread a generous amount of oil or moisturizer on your hair and tie it up before swimming. If you do this, then your hair won’t be able to absorb chlorine or salt in the water, keeping your strands healthy and shiny – all vacation long!
3. Tie your hair up to sleep
When your hair is loose, you’re more likely to have breakage and other damage to your hair. That’s why it’s always best to braid your hair or loosely pull it into a bun and securing it with a scrunchie at night. When you’re at home though, you can get away with leaving your hair loose if you’re staying on top of caring for it in other ways. But with all the stresses while you’re on vacation, you don’t have the same leeway. So stay diligent and tie those strands up!
4. Protect yourself from the sun
Sun is hard on your scalp, your strands, and your colour. That’s why you need to protect your hair and scalp from UV – just like you would your skin. You can do that with a hat or another type of head covering. If you don’t want to go that route, check out Shimmer Shine, Shimmer Me, and Hair Resort from Kevin Murphy!
5. Use leave-in conditioner
Whenever you’re on vacation, toss a leave-in conditioner in your bag. After swimming, showering, or even just a long day in the sun, comb that leave-in conditioner through your hair. That way, you can take care of your hair on vacation without interrupting your fun! Don’t have a leave-in conditioner you love? Check out Staying Alive and UnTangled – both from Kevin Murphy!
6. Avoid free products
Never, ever, EVER use the free products in your hotel room! We know they’re tempting, but there’s a reason why they’re free. They’re rarely premium quality shampoos and conditioners – products you would never consider using at home. So why use them now? Instead, use your normal products. You can always pick up your travel-sized Davines and Kevin Murphy products at our Mount Pleasant hair salon and have your travel bag stocked with everything you need!
