At our hair salon in Mount Pleasant, we get a lot of questions.
One of the most common ones is: “Why won’t my hair grow any longer?”
Well, we hear you, Foxes, and we’re here to help!
Tips from our hair salon in Mount Pleasant: why your hair isn’t growing as long as you want
1. Too much time between haircuts
There’s a folk story that, if you cut your hair, it’ll grow faster. We’re sorry to announce that that’s a big myth. But regularly trimming your strands can make them seem like they’re growing faster! That’s because when your hair isn’t being regularly trimmed, you get more split ends and breakage. So if you want longer hair, pop into our hair salon in Mount Pleasant every 8-10 weeks for a trim!
2. A slow metabolism
The faster your metabolism, the more your hair grows. The best way to promote a healthy metabolism is to take care of yourself. Get enough sleep, workout, and eat a balanced diet. Make sure you are getting your vitamins. Also, try not to stress, including about your hair growth, as it can lower your metabolism.
3. Buildup on your scalp
Your strands actually aren’t alive, so there’s nothing you can do to them that will make them grow faster. The real place to focus is your scalp: that’s where the follicles where your hair grows from are located, and that’s where healthy hair originates. If you don’t have a healthy scalp, you won’t have healthy hair. Make sure you don’t have a buildup of oil as that can lead to slower growth or can even make your hair fall out. If you need a little help removing buildup, we recommend picking up a bottle of Kevin Murphy’s Maxi.Wash next time you’re in the salon.
4. Rough treatment
If you handle your hair roughly, scrubbing when you wash it, towel drying it, and ripping a comb through it, you can cause significant breakage. Stop this by following a few simple rules:
- Protect your hair
- Avoid excessive heat styling
- Brush before washing
- Never towel dry
With some hair TLC, you will be able to prevent this type of breakage.
We know this isn’t the answer anyone wants to hear… after all, there’s not much you can do about your DNA. That said, genetics plays a major role in how long your hair grows before it starts shedding. Unfortunately, as you get older, the situation may end up being amplified. So what can you do about it? Your best bet is to take good care of your hair and diet. And remember, extensions are always an option!
